Wildlife We Remove in Richmond, VA
Trutech Wildlife Service has been helping both homeowners and commercial businesses protect property and public health from nuisance wildlife for decades.
Wildlife in your lawn and garden can be as disruptive as an animal in your home. Burrowing animals can damage your home by digging under homes, porches, sheds, and driveways. If your yard has available resources that attracted wildlife, those animals might try to enter your home. Protecting your yard can be the first step in protecting your home.
Richmond, Virginia serves as the capital city of the Commonwealth of Virginia. In the bend of the James River, wild animals have adapted to city life. The historic city has long been an area where people and wildlife interact on a regular basis.
With regular access to water, wild animals seek shelter and food. Many resourceful critters look to the human population as a source. While finding a raccoon going through a trash can at the city park is one thing, having a nuisance wildlife infestation in your home is another.

Richmond Wildlife Removal Services
With a focus on the best customer experience possible, we work efficiently to protect properties from unwelcome wildlife.
Based on the seasonal weather patterns, you are more likely to encounter an unexpected house guest between April to October. However, it’s possible to run into a pest problem at any time throughout the year.
Whether securing your home or protecting your garden, here’s what to expect when you call Trutech:
Step 1: Inspection
When a Trutech technician arrives at your home, we will start by asking questions about your experience with the nuisance wildlife at hand.
Once we have a firm grasp on the issues facing the property owner, a thorough inspection of the interior and exterior of the home begins. This includes looking at the attic, crawlspace, roof, and any possible entry points.
Since each species and home is different, the length of the inspection can vary. It can take between 30 minutes to 3 hours to accurately evaluate the extent of the wildlife nuisance issue.
Step 2: The Plan
With the results of the inspection, we share our findings with you. And share how we will solve the problem for you.
Although each wildlife control plan is unique to the home, it may include live trapping, direct capture, one-way doors, or deterrents.
Before any work begins, we make sure that you are comfortable with the steps being taken to resolve the nuisance wildlife issue.
Step 3: Get to Work
If you approve of the plan, we will set up a time to put it into place. After the animal removal has taken place, we will repair any damage caused by the critter.
Additionally, we will apply sanitizing and ectoparasite agents to the affected areas. Once the plan is executed, your home will be returned to its normal condition.
Step 4: Exclusion
Wildlife removal is just one part of the plan. Many plans include wildlife control measures to prevent any future problems. This is often completed by installing a full home exclusion. The goal is to create physical barriers to prevent animals from entering your home in the future.
A few possible exclusion techniques include gable vents, ridge vents, crawlspace vents, roof returns, and plumbing stacks. With the appropriate exclusions in place, you can rest easy knowing that a long-term solution is in place to protect your home from nuisance wildlife.
Warranty and Guarantee
Once installed, Trutech offers a one-year warranty on full home exclusions. Plus, there is a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you aren’t satisfied with the initial work, Trutech will send out a service manager to inspect the work completed and make any necessary adjustments.

Wildlife Removal Services in Richmond
Rodent Pest Control
Rats have plagued Richmond residents. A rodent infestation can damage your home and harm your health.
Rodents damage your home and spread diseases. Setting a few traps is not an effective rodent pest control method. A litter is usually between five to twelve, and one rat can have up to seven litters in a year!
Our rodent pest control specialists in Richmond will work with you to get rid of mice and rat problems and help advise you on proper rodent control so that you no longer need to worry about these destructive pests.
The standard trapping duration is normally 5-14 days. An integrated trapping and exclusion strategy is essential to solve the rodent infestation. Rodents can gnaw through virtually any house material, and mice only need a hole the size of a dime. Trutech offers recurring rodent services to maintain a rodent-free home.
Skunk Control
Both species are quite adaptable to urban and suburban settings. Skunks and opossums are attracted to food around your house. Keep trash secure and do not leave pet food outside can prevent the animals from entering your property or home.
Skunks will also look for safe denning areas under decks and sheds. Occasionally skunks can fall into window wells. Sealing ground-level entrances and burying wire mesh are effective ways to exclude skunks.
Because skunks prefer dark places, people and pets can unexpectedly discover a skunk only to get sprayed. If you suspect a skunk, do not try to trap it yourself.
Raccoon Removal
Raccoons are found throughout Central Virginia and live close to a body of water. Raccoons will enter your house in search of food or s safe place to give birth.
Raccoon breeding season starts in January continuing into March. Raccoons are weaned after about twelve weeks and disperse in the fall or early winter. If a raccoon den is in your attic to give birth, it could be a problem that lasts months.
Raccoons are nocturnal. You will hear them at night. They can destroy insulation with their feces. Their sharp claws will damage HVAC ductwork, pipes, and wiring.
Live trapping is the most common removal technique and exclusion technique. Raccoons can wreak havoc trying to get back into your house. Minor repairs will not be sufficient. It is illegal to trap and relocate a raccoon in Virginia.
Squirrel Removal
Of the five species of squirrels in Virginia, the gray squirrel and the Southern flying squirrel are most likely to enter your home in Richmond. Squirrels nest in tree cavities but will search for shelter in attics due to habitat loss. Squirrels will most likely enter your home in spring and autumn but they are active year-round.
In the spring and autumn squirrels search for a safe nest to give birth. Flying squirrels have been found in groups as large as fifty during the winter. Gray squirrels are active during the day. Flying squirrels are nocturnal and very vocal.
Both species damage your home by constantly gnawing, building nests, and leaving their droppings. Do not keep a squirrel as a pet or relocate a trapped squirrel. Both are illegal in Virginia. Effective squirrel control includes trapping, removing, and preventing squirrel infestations.
Bat Removal
There are seventeen species of bats in Virginia. The most likely bat species to enter roost in an attic in Richmond are the Big Brown Bat, Evening Bat, Little Brown Bat, and Brazilian free-tailed bat.
If you have bats in the attic, do not trap them! Roosting bats can leave large piles of bat guano which can spread fungal diseases. Three bat species are considered Federally threatened and another three are Federally endangered. It is illegal to “transport, release or relocate a bat anywhere other than the property it was caught on” (source) and “poison any animal… on your property” (source)
Proper bat control focuses on exclusion work. Once the young can survive on their own, the wildlife technician seals the entry points and installs a bat valve. Once the valve is installed, your house will be bat free in 3-7 days.
Opossum Control
Opossums are quite adaptable to urban and suburban settings . Opossums are attracted to food around your house. Keeping trash secure and do not leave pet food outside can prevent the animals from entering your property or home.
Opossums are not prone to aggression. They pose the greatest threat to your garden, but they will eat almost anything. Opossums do carry diseases so do not approach them haphazardly. Opossums will also look for safe nesting areas under decks, inside garages, or under foundations. Sealing ground-level entrances and burying wire mesh are effective ways to exclude opossums.

Frequently Asked Questions
There is no one-size-fits-all solution; each job requires a custom approach. We inspect every home and build a custom plan to resolve any wildlife problems. We use a variety of techniques including cage traps, direct capture, one-way valves, and deterrents. Exclusion techniques are the most effective way to get rid of animals.
We provide customized solutions to each individual customer so that we may solve the issue as quickly, efficiently, and cost-effectively as possible. The size of the house, type of animal, number of nuisance animals, and length of time of infestation affect the estimated price of wildlife removal.
An estimate may change based on the amount of animal activity or work needed to be done. All estimates are finalized with an exact price before any work begins.
Our goal is to remove any wildlife as humanely as possible — often that means catching and releasing the animal.
Trutech® does not hire subcontractors for animal removal services. We employ expert technicians who are provided ongoing education and training in all aspects of animal control and removal. Many of our technicians hold degrees in Wildlife Biology, Entomology (insects), Ornithology (birds) or Herpetology (reptiles), some with Masters degrees in their specialty field.
Yes! We are licensed and insured.
We start by first removing the wildlife on your property, and cleaning up any damage. From there we’ll work with you to create a customized prevention plan so you won’t have the same issue again.
Typically an animal dies in your home because it became trapped in a hard-to-reach and hidden area. Our expert technicians have the experience and knowledge to find it and then safely remove the carcass from your home.
Our Wildlife Technicians use a pet-safe odor eliminator made of natural organisms and enzymes that consume decaying organic odor-causing matter, eliminating the source of the lingering odor. We use aerosols, oxidizing agents, foggers, and disinfectants with germicides to deodorize until nature completes this task for you.
You should consider a full home exclusion after the smell has been neutralized. Nuisance wildlife found its way into your house once. That entrance leaves your home vulnerable to future animal infestations. Full home exclusions are the most effective form of wildlife control.
