Rats in Fort Worth unfortunately can be a common problem. The two most common are the Norway rat and the roof rat. People tend to notice a rat problem at night when they are scurrying around a house looking for something to eat. Rats live in colonies and stay within about 100 feet of their nests.
I’m going to show you a recent inspection for a rat problem to help you identify a rat infestations.
Identify How Rats are Getting into the House
Rats can squeeze through tiny holes. The size of the gaps can surprise some homeowners. In this case, rats took advantage of some wood rot along the garage. Once they found a weakness, they could sneak under the closed garage door and climb up into the attic.
I checked around the house too. This space where the A/C enters the house is a common problem. A/C units drip water which can attract pests. Rats can easily climb the hoses and get into the house through these gaps.
Identify Where Rats are in the House
After an inspection of the house exterior, I went inside to the most likely place to find rats hiding — the attic. The entrance by the garage led directly into the attic. Once up there, I found rat droppings and rat tracks in the dust.
During the attic inspection, I noticed additional signs of rat activity around the roof vents. Vents along the roof are popular spots for critters like rats and squirrels to find an easy way into your home. During our exclusion, we seal these roof vents from future rodent problems.
How to Keep Rats Out in Fort Worth
The best way to keep rats out of your house is through exclusion work. To solve this rat infestation, we instituted a rat-trapping program in their attic. It’s important to monitor the traps regularly. Once the population was under control, we installed exclusion repairs around the garage, under the garage door, along the roof vents, and around the A/C intake.
